Hello, I am new to the list and please excuse me if I am posting a very basic type of question which has been raised many times before.
I am a UK-based British citizen, whose Mexican wife is about to apply from Mexico for a visa to join me in the UK. We are struggling, however, to work out which kind of Visa we should be applying for on the online form at the Visa4Uk site. My understanding from perusing the site was that she should apply for a ‘Family of Settled Person’ visa, but that doesn’t appear to be clearly offered as an option on the form. Instead, under ‘Select Visa Type’ the form first asks her for her ‘Reason for Visit’ (Visit/Study/Work/Settlement/Transit/Other/Exempt). The only option that seemed to fit there was ‘Settlement’ even though other pages of the site suggest that a ‘Settlement Visa’ is something you apply for after living in the UK for some time. So she chose ‘Settlement’ and was then asked to select ‘Visa Type’ with the options of ‘Settlement’ and ‘Returning Resident’. Again, ‘Settlement’ seemed the only appropriate answer, so she was finally asked to fill in ‘Visa Sub-Type’ where, from the many options offered, she was uncertain whether to choose ‘Wife’ or ‘Marriage’. I advised the former and she was presented with a form headed ‘Settlement-Settlement-Wife’. Frankly, as this didn’t seem to correspond with any visa we had previously seen mentioned on the UKBA pages, she is reluctant to start filling in such a detailed form in case it happens to be the wrong one. An email enquiry through the ‘Contact me’ box only resulted in a blanket ‘All the relevant information is on the site’ type response.
Would board-members possibly be able to confirm that she is filling in the right form?
