Hi
I have recently applied for the citizenship and received my acknowledgement letter and biometric enrolment letter and this is where the problems begin. The acknowledgement letter arrived address to me in my married name (the application form and all supporting documents including current passport are in my married name) but the biometric letter is in my maiden name. The only reason I can think of why that happened is that my original leave to remain in the UK (issued over 10 years ago now on the basis of marriage to a British citizen) was issued while my passport at the time was still in my maiden name. I have not transferred my ILR into my new passport as Poland joined EU by then and I had not needed to have the visa in my passport. My question is -is this gonna cause a problem with my application? I really want my naturalisation certificate to be in my married name and then obviously my British passport as well to be in that name. I have emailed the HMPO 3 times but received no reply so far and the 15 days they give for biometrics is running out. Is there any other way of contacting them???? Please help!!! I'm getting worried.
Thanks. AW

Thanks for your reply. I have tried those email addresses and no success. With regards to phone numbers none of the options offered apply to my circumstances so not sure if can get anywhere with them. Do you think if I get the biometrics done in my maiden name it will cause problems with my application??

I'm not sure on impact of your application.
How about trying this HO helpline:

Thank you for that. I think i will just get it done in my maiden name and then apply for the NTL. I know it is another £260 on top of the citizenship fee but I don't think there is any other way to get round this and I really don't want to have problems with my passport in the future if the naturalisation certificate (providing I will be successful) is in my maiden name and my current Polish passport in my married name

I think you haven't realized the problem yet - that the post office may refuse to enroll your biometrics (that is what happened to the person whose topic I provided the link for).
What do you mean you will get it done in your maiden name and then apply for NTL? British citizens cannot apply for NTL.

I am not sure why would the Post Office refuse to enrol my biometrics?? They have to use the letter I was provided with by the HO which has my name encrypted into the barcode. With regards to applying for NTL, I meant I would apply for it before I get my citizenship as according to the advice on the website you have to report any changes within 3 months or they can fine you £1000 and my citizenship application could potentially take over 6 months to be decided.

The other person had his middle name missing in the biometrics letter - refused biometric enrollment at a post-office
You have biometrics letter issued in your maiden name, whereas you used married name in form AN - let the forum know if you encounter problem at the post office.
Another person in
similar circumstances.

A bit of an update. So I managed to get through to the helpline and apparently they have 20 working days to reply to your emails which is crazy because they only give you 15 to get the biometrics done. The guy on the phone said not to worry as I will get an extension on my biometrics as I contacted them straight away and it won't affect my application. When I asked about the issue with maiden/ married name problem he was not prepared to give me any advice and just said to wait until I hear from them. He also told me that You do not get an automated reply to confirm that the email has been received which I personally think is not very professional. But hey ho what do I know. Will keep you posted.
