Tier 2(General) Extension - SOC Codes

Post by Sudio » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:03 pm

Hi All

I am in the country on a Tier 2 General Visa and my initial visa was issued out of the country. Initial COS - Applied Feb 2013. Been with the same employer and due for an extension. However while checking my documents from my initial application to current one I realized that the SOC codes have changed. I was initially on "1136 Information and communication technology managers" in the SOC 2000 code but in the SOC 2010 it is "1136 Information technology and telecommunications directors" which a higher experience salary than I am currently earning.

Couple of questions on the above -

1) Can I still apply on the same code 1136 since this was the code that I was on when I entered the country, even though my job is not really a director &

2) If a New Code is chosen by my employer '2134 IT project and programme managers" will there need to be another RMLT completed due to this change. Even if this is required, will it be an issue as there is no real vacancy in the company as the position is not vacant (since I am in that position)

Any advice will be most helpful - Thanks

The 2000 SOC code of 1136 was divided into 3 new 2010 SOC codes i.e. 1136, 2133, 2134. Your employer can use any one of the three 2010 SOC codes for your extension without conducting RLMT. For any other SOC code apart from these three, they will need to conduct RLMT.
