graduate level -- what to prove

Dear Friends,

I am over 28 and I plan to claim 10 years graduate level experience with at least five years in senior or specialist positions.

Question: Must the 10 years of graduate level experience be consecutive?

Must they be the most ten years most recently past?

In other words, will Home Office only consider graduate level experience taking place between 1994 and 2004?

My problem with consecutive 10 years is that it may take me some time to reach some of my previous employers ( there are several), and even then there may be some awkwardness because I strongly suspect that anyone who knew me when I was employed will be long gone to other pastures. (If I am able to find them.)

My problem with the most recent ten years is that I was with many of the employers I have described in the paragraph above.

I can show 10 years of graduate level experience out of my (thus far) 16 year career. The problem is, some of that experience goes back to 1989. And, I would skip over several of my work experiences to avoid some of th problems described above, but still show a total of 10 years or a bit more. Would this present a problem, do you think?

My career has been a bit fragmented because of volitility in my field, especially in the geographic area I was living in at the time. If I present letters from all of the employers over the most recent past 10 years, there will be 8 letters overall! (some overlap between employers).

I had read on another website (actually, the downloadable book available at hsmp-services.com) that the graduate level experience was required or expected to be consecutive and most recent ten year period.

I wanted to know what you thought or knew about that.

In various places I've read that HSMP application process is simple. It is anything but!

Hi Zeke,

I could tell my experience as i have succssfully got 50 points. I had 11 yrs of experience and 1.5 yrs jobless before submitting HSMP. But i was through. Also i had attached a letter from my ex collegue in place of experiece letter as my first company was closed its operation.

I don't know whether i have answered you or not.. but just shared my experience.

I have actually started the process of finding the companies and former supervisors, although in at least one case, the company is now closed and I am not sure I will be able to track down the former supervisor...yes, I want to be thorough, very thorough...one of the basic assumptions I am making as I prepare my application is that the HSMP reviewers will be sticklers for detail, and will want to vet everything!
