British citizenship through unmarried father

So historically I'm aware that one couldn't claim British citizenship through an unmarried father but those laws changed in May this year. I've had a good look through all the laws and documents but, as always, it seems as clear as mud to me.

My father was born in England in 1955 so is classified as a citizen by other than descent. I was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1979 but my folks were never married. Do I qualify for citizenship under the new laws (section 4I of the 1984 act) where I have never had CUKC status but would have due to the fact he is English born or am I missing something here?

My dad doesn't appear on my birth certificate but I see DNA testing is a viable option.

Any advice is appreciated as the wording is driving me crazy having to cross check various acts. I don't want to have to spend huge amounts of money on DNA testing and documents if it is all for nothing.

Recommend that you get approved DNA tests while your father is alive.
