Investigations to verify info

Hi all,

Does it ever happen that the UKVI/UKBA/HO conduct investigations into information/evidence supplied in applications (in our case EEA route Surinder Singh)? Such as contacting relatives/colleagues/rental agencies?

I have seen cases where the HO called the rental agency/landlord to verify information regarding tenancy .

In one such case , the application was rejected because the landlord told the HO that the tenant specifically asked for a 3 month short term let .
