Naturalization question

Post by madhanipr » Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:21 pm

Hi,

I need one clarification regarding the naturalization process.

I applied and obtained my ILR in August-2015 and hence will apply for naturalization in August-2016.

My wife is yet to obtain her ILR, will be applying through postal route this month.

I wanted to know whether once I obtain British citizenship in August-2016, can my wife apply for naturalization as soon as I receive British citizenship in August-2016? Or does my wife need to wait for 12 months from the day she receives her ILR?

Thanks.

Yes, in principle, once you are a BC your wife (as spouse of a BC) can apply to naturalise once she has ILR & can meet all other requirements; no need for her to wait for 12 months.

Note it may take 6 months (or more) for your naturalisation to be processed & (hopefully) approved.
The Naturalisation Ceremony follows that approval (at which time you will finally become British).
