Anything in it for me?

Post by xy16644 » Tue Nov 13, 2007 10:51 pm

Hello All,

My parents are South African and are in the UK on an ancestral visa. They will be getting their British passports shortly.

My question is, when they both have their British passports, will I be able to get one or benefit in anyway? I am 29yrs old and only have a South African passport.

I don't qualify for the ancestral or any other UK work visa so I would like to find out if my parents having British passports can help me in anyway.

If I don't qualify for a passport can I get residence? Anything?

Many thanks!

You don't qualify for anything because you are too old...if you were under 18 then they could have helped, but since you're 29 (and probably living an independent live, etc), they can't help you at all.

I suggest you look at the working holiday maker visa (go to www.workingintheuk.gov.uk or the website of the British High Commission in SA). If not the WHM, then a work permit (sponsored by an employer) or HSMP, or student visa.

But, in short, you parents cannot help you and you'll have to come to the UK on your own accord.

Why don't you qualify for the ancestry visa?

One assumes that it is because it was her great granparents who were born in the UK.
