Spouse Sponsor Income Threshold 2nd Job Pension

Post by bg1971 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 12:37 pm

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. Read out most of the posts which i found very helpful. Can you please help me with following topic.
I am a british citizen, planning apply for my wife’s spouse visa. She lived in Bangladesh. I have been working part-time over a years, salary £12468.00. After taking off my pension it shows as Gross Taxable £11724.00.
My question is:
1. Whether my total wages will be taken into consideration here AFTER pension or BEFORE pension deduction ?
2. I have recently started a second job to reach threshold (18,600 – 12K = 6.6k), paid weekly (£180). Do i need to show 6 months payslips for this second job?

Many thanks for your support.

Regards

You gross pay is the pay you receive before pension contribution is deducted.

The pension contribution has tax relief, but it does not change the fact of your gross pay.

The tax contribution is not taxable, but your gross income remain the one you receive before the pension is deducted.

the other job is fine, but you will need to wait for 6 months, for the salary and non-salary income to aggregate to 18600

Dear Obie,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. Now I can understand about the fact of pension contribution.
Could you please add some clarification about my second question;
Should I have to earn the differences (6.6K) within the 6 months from my second job ? What is non-salary income, is it applicable in my case as second job?
Once again, thank you so much for your support.

Best

I meant to say income from non-salary employment. That is weekly wages which is based on hours worked and no salary is paid.

It is 6 month preceding the application that your earning has to aggregate to 18600.you can get a new job anytime. It does not have to be within six months of the 1 st job.

Dear Obie,
I just want to correct you something. Home office calculates gross income after deduct the pension contribution NOT before. It has happened in my case. My application was rejected because of annual gross income shortfall of £300 . My calculation was before pension deduct. But ECO calculated after deduction of my pension from the payslips. Relied upon the advises above I prepared my documents.
Thanks

Did you appeal it. Because ECO refused your application, does not mean I was wrong, does it ?

There is no guidance note on this, but logically , the definition for gross, is consistent with the explanation I gave above.
