thanks for the response, yes I have his British passport, his registration certificate dated before my birth. and his name is on my birth certificate. my question is will the earlier refusal affects my registration application now?
2ndly, after going through the new law and fee I need clarification on the fee, I know a group will pay the registration fee plus the ceremony fee while the other group will pay only ceremony fee. pls can you expatiates, which category do I belong and the form is saying something about biometric number : :?

''Following registration under paragraphs 4G-4I, a person will be a British citizen “by descent” if he or she would automatically have become a British citizen by descent had his or her parents been married.
A person registering under section 4F whose only route to registration as a British citizen (had their parents been married) would have been under section 3(2) will be a British citizen by descent.
Those applying under section 4F will need to pay an application fee.
Those applying under sections 4G – 4I will not pay a registration fee, but will have to pay a ceremony fee of £80.''

thanks

Keji, as far as I can understand section 3(2) (so 4F on the form) refers to those whose grandparents were not British at the time your father was born. If your parent was the only British person you pay more, but if your ancestry traces back even further you only have to pay the citizenship fee. I'm the first person born in America in my father's family and my parents had never married. When I filed my forms UKVI told me I was 4G on UKF and only had to pay the ceremony fee.

Oh and the biometrics for form UKF is done after your ceremony, within 90 days of acceptance at a post office. It's not like the visas where you have to do it and submit your biometrics with your application.

Assuming that your father was married to your mother:
Amber wrote:Then you are British as per 1(1)(a) if born in the UK or 2(1)(a) if born abroad. You can apply for a British Passport, just supply your Birth Certificate showing your Father's name and your Father's naturalisation certificate.
Supply also parents' marriage certificate.
