Child born abroad: Passport Application from within UK?

Hello people

I am a naturalized citizenship and am planning to have my child delivered in India. My child will be a british citizen through descent route.

My question is, once the child is born, can I apply for its passport from within the UK while the child is in India? I could get all the required documents from India and can also attend the interview on the child's behalf within country if required. I have been advised by a reputed solicitor that this is possible and also less time consuming (4 weeks compared to a minimum of 16weeks if applying from India).

Can someone please shed some light on this? Know of anyone who has done this?
