Invalid application due to incorrect payment

Post by rom_lon » Wed Feb 05, 2014 4:51 pm

Hi everybody,

I have been reading this boarding once in a while before I submitted my applications. Me and my wife, we applied for EEA1 and EEA2 together and after two months they sent us our documents and applications back citing that an incorrect payment was made. Please note that the payments were supposed to be made by a debit card.

The letters from UKBA read,

EEA1: "Although a £55 payment has been made, it is not the correct amount and will be refunded in due course. You have included your spouse in your application but have not specified the amount to be paid on his payment sheet. The payment made must include the addition fee of £55 for your spouse. Therefore, the total amount payable for this application should be £110."

EEA2: "You have not made any payment and have not completed the payment page of the application form (the amount to be paid was not specified). Details of how to pay the fee are given in the guidance notes within the application form. You should ensure the payment page is completed before returning any fresh application to the address given on the application form."

I spoke to the UKBA helpline and they advised me to reapply the applications together and put £55 on each application (and include a cover letter explaining the situation). However, I am rather confident that last time when we sent the applications we did exactly the same. I don't want this to happen again as my UK visa expires in April.

Please can someone advice how I should proceed?

Thank you very much

It seems to me that you did not feel the payment page correctly but you say you did. Since they have send back all documents you can actually see if you made any mistake or forget to fill the payment section. Do as you have been advised and if you can, use bank draft or postal orders.

Hi Seneca. Thanks for your reply. The issue is they kept all the pages related to the payments so I can't actually confirm it!

Do you think it's more effective to use a bank draft or a postal order?

Yes postal orders or bank draft are as good as cash. The only drawback is you have to pay a little bit more as opposed to direct debit which is free. But it is guarantee way to make sure UKBA get their cash asap and no danger of your application rejected because of payment. This time though double check the application form before you sent it.

The solution is to keep copies of what you submitted.
