BC for Child born in the UK - British Father

Post by ardak » Sat Nov 14, 2015 4:18 pm

Hello,
Could you please advise, whether our child born recently in the UK gets the British Citizenship automatically - my husband is British (naturalised in 2013) and I have a permanent residence card in the UK.
As I understood, it is, but need to get some clarification, as we were thinking to apply for another passport from a country which doesn't allow dual citizenship, and apply for the UK Certificate of Entitlement for Right of Abode (CoE RoA). In order to do so we need to get from the Home Office the CONFIRMATION OF THE NON-ACQUISITION OF BRITISH CITIZENSHIP (form NQ), but in case if the citizenship is automatic, then it won't be possible.
Many thanks for your advice.

It sounds like your child is a British citizen. With a parent who has been naturalised before time of birth, the child would automatically be British whether or not they are born in the UK.

A child born in the UK to a parent who is settled in the UK (either a British or Irish citizen or with PR or ILR status) is a British citizen otherwise than by descent from birth.

Do you mean PR or ILR?

Do you mean India?
