I've yet to hear of an instance where an Irish consulate abroad gave out correct advice lol.I am not sure why the consulate recomended an EU spouse permit.
Strange, but true. If the non-Irish spouse is from a visa-waiver country you enter on the visa waiver and then apply to remain once in Ireland. You can't apply for a spouse visa abroad. Personally I like the way the UK and others do it; you know you will be granted leave BEFORE you pack up and move halfway around the world.I am also surprised that you can just return to Ireland with your husband.
