Hi,
My son is two. He was born in Peru and has Peruvian nationality. Both I and my wife (my son's mother) are British by descent. I moved to the UK when I was 2 and lived there continuously until I was 21. Both my parents were born in the UK and are British other than by descent.
I want my son to have British nationality. I understand that he can acquire Brtish nationality by descent from me, but, if he acquires British nationality this way, he will not be able to pass on British nationality to his children (if he has any). Alternatively, he can acquire British nationality other than by descent by living in the UK for three consecutive years before he is 18. If he acquires British nationality other than by descent he will be able to pass British nationality on to his children. We would therefore like him to acquire British nationality other than by descent.
My wife and I have been living in Peru for the last few years, but now intend to settle in the UK with our son. I have been told that I need to apply for my son to have Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) the UK and that this application needs to be made in Peru.
Could someone please confirm if I can make this application for him online and, if so, what I need to put in the 'Select Visa Type' section on the Visa4UK website for the fields:
Reason for Visit:
Visa Type:
Visa Sub Type:
Also, should I select 'Apply For Myself' and fill the form out as he would, or should I select 'Apply For Someone Else' and fill it out for him, signing as his father on his behalf?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.
