Ref HO guidance on this vital matter:9.5 Illegal Entry
In circumstances where an applicant entered the UK illegally, an application for citizenship should normally be refused for a period of 10 years from the date of entry, if it is known.
If it is not known, the period of 10 years starts from the date on which the person first brought themselves to or came to the attention of the Home Office
Thanks. I came to UK in 03 January 2004. Why does it matter ? Would they believe me if i put it in the application?noajthan wrote:When did your illegal stay commencePablo1987 wrote:... Prior to that i was illegally in the UK for 5 years.

Cash in hand as BarberCR001 wrote:HO will also be very interested to know what you did in the UK for 5 years without any legal status (i.e. did you work and with what proof of residence and right to work)?
Unless it starts in 2011 as you mentioned illegal for (past) 5 years.Pablo1987 wrote:"It matters because any ban will run from entry or from when HO became aware of it - whichever is later"
Well i entered illegally back in 2004 and never made any contact with HO until 2009 when i applied for COA to get married. So technically from what i understand from you is 2009 the 10 years start???
Thanks
2011?? Why? I was illegal between 2004 to mid 2009 (date i got my RC) i been legal since thennoajthan wrote:Unless it starts in 2011 as you mentioned illegal for (past) 5 years.Pablo1987 wrote:"It matters because any ban will run from entry or from when HO became aware of it - whichever is later"

You do realise that you have to declare your employment on the form (as the rules stand now)
