EEA family permit_HELP with certifying documents

Post by fenix » Mon Feb 08, 2016 11:24 pm

HI everyone!

I see that a lot has been talked about here so I hope that someone can help me, because the situation is a bit crucial :(((

Quick background: I am Ukrainian and my husband is Maltese who is currently living and working in the UK since January 01. I am planing to apply for the EEA FP to join him there.

The questions arose when we started collecting documents.

The most crucial question is the following. Together with my application I file the letter from my husband (supporting my application and disclosing our relations). He is in UK and will send the letter by post.

IS IT ENOUGH for him just to sigh the letter (on his own) or he has to do this in front of someone who can warranty/certify that it was really him signing?

Who this person might be if needed?

Other questions are:

1) Shall I provide originals of all documents? Do they return the originals upon viewing the application (for example if they refuse, do I get all my documents back or I need to collect them again?)
2) Shall I provide the certified or plain copies of the documents?
there is a list of documents to be certified on https://www.gov.uk/certifying-a-document but is it explicit? What to do with the documents left (Like TB screening certificate? ) is the simply photocopy is sufficient?

Maybe someone can help me based on their experience. Thanks in advance!
If you need more info to help me, please ask!

Hi

I am on the same boat and applying for my permit in 2 weeks time. From what I understand a self attested (signed) copy should be enough.

1. You have to provide your original documents and they return it once you receive your permit
2. TB Screening even I am trying to find out. If I do will let you know.

mscolimao, Thanks a lot for your help. Hope you are correct and we will get our permits.

To those who already have EEA family permit, please share your experience!

I don't think you even need this letter.

As proof of your relationship you only need to supply your marriage certificate. And the fact of being married is enough evidence for your motivation to move to the UK. You can add a cover letter to your application, but I that is not necessary, and you definitely don't need to certify it.

I recently got my family permit sponsored by my unmarried partner, and he never had to write a single line of support. All other evidence documents we supplied (bills, payslips, letters of friends, pictures together) were enough to prove that we are in a relationship. Bear in mind, we had to gather more evidence as we are unmarried. In your case, as a married couple, the marriage certificate is the single most important document. You need to supply it, and it is enough to prove support. Of course, do also supply all other requested documents as proof of identity, address and of employment of your husband.

If you can. I would advise it, yes.
fenix wrote:Do they return the originals upon viewing the application
Yes, they do.
fenix wrote:if they refuse, do I get all my documents back
Yes, you do.

If you are providing originals, only plain copies.
If you are not providing originals, which I do not advise, then yes, you need to certify them.

As proof of your relationship you only need to supply your marriage certificate. The fact of being married is enough evidence for your motivation to move to the UK and of his support. You can include a cover letter to your application, but that is optional, and you definitely don't need to certify it.

I recently got my family permit sponsored by my unmarried partner, and he never had to write a single line of support. He did sign the application form as required for sponsors, but that was it.

Of course, do send all the relevant documents, marriage certificate, proof of address, and employment of your husband, and you will be fine.
