Children born in UK / EU Parents

Post by vafman » Wed Feb 10, 2016 1:59 pm

Hi,

My Mrs and I are expecting our twins to arrive in two months time. I am looking around to find any info but I am really confused at the moment so any help would be highly appreciated.

I am an EU/EEA citizen working in UK since November 2012. By the time the twins will be born I will have 4,5 years in UK. My wife is also an EU/EEA citizen moved 3 years ago in UK.

Can our twins have British citizenship? Should I wait until November 2017 to get the permanent residence card and apply then or I can do it earlier?

Any help?

Thanks

Minors born in UK are entitled to register as citizens once one parent has settled status; (for an EEA national that means PR).

Is this a requirment pre birth? Are they still entitled if the parent has the PR 6 months after they will be born?

If one parent has PR before the child is born, it will automatically be British. If you don't get PR until after the child is born, it will be entitled to register as a British citizen once one parent has PR. The cost of registration is somewhere in the region of £750 at the moment.

Yes I have quoted the situation with parent's PR coming after the happy event.
