Evidence of planning to marry - help

Post by Charlottesmerdon » Thu Feb 18, 2016 10:46 am

Hi,
I am looking to move to the Uk to be with my fiancé. Can anyone provide advice on what documentation you should provide to prove that you plan to marry? We are hoping to get married at a registers office & then have a big wedding later down the track when all our family can be there and we don't have a time limit. Is there a way to prove marrying at a registers office in the UK?
Thanks so much

When I did this around 7 years ago I did not book anything ahead or time (venue/hotel & etc), nor even seek out estimates for my planned event.
Regarding proof of intention to marry, I simply wrote a cover letter outlining marriage plans & timelines.
That succeeded.

Your mileage may vary.

If you apply for a fiance visa (current cost £956), it is an intention to marry within 6 months of the visa validity. Once married, you can switch to spouse visa. For both, your fiance needs to meet the financial requirement as wanderer has pointed out.

In the initial 6 months of the fiance visa, you would not be permitted to work. You are also required to register your intention to marry and you can only do this once you are in the UK. You have to give 28 days notice at one of the approved Registrars.

Thanks all so much for your advice - very much appreciated and helpful!

Can I also ask - does my partner in the UK need to fill anything out or do anything? I know he will need to provide me with his pay slips for the past six months to prove the financial requirements and also his mortgage agreement for the house he owns to prove we will have somewhere to live. Is this all he needs to provide?

Thanks again

The particular documents to satisfy the financial requirements are set out in Appendix FM-SE.
