Jordan to UK - bringing my wife to live with me

Hello all,

I'm a British Citizen and have been married to my life for 4 months now. I currently live in Qatar for work but am looking to come back to the UK in April 2016.

I want to begin the application for my wife who has Jordanian nationality to come and study/work in the UK with me. I've no problem meeting the financial or accommodation requirements but wanted to inquire into the best route to take....

I've been reading through the UK gov website for a couple of weeks now but its still quite unclear to me...I believe she needs to apply through the 'Apply to join family living permanently in the UK' route but wanted some guidance/support that this is the correct way of actually going through this...

Can somebody please help?

Yes, you've found the correct application. When you write that you meet the financial requirements, do you intend to do this through savings?

The correct amount is £18,600 and needs to be earned in UK.

The minimum amount is £18,600 but there are conditions attached. In order to qualify you will have to show:
1. You have earned the equivalent of £18,600 in your current country of residence for the 12 month period prior to submitting your wife's application.
and
2. You have a confirmed job offer in the UK starting within 3 months of your arrival, again with a minimum salary of £18,600 p.a

You will also show that you have 'adequate' accommodation available in the UK for when your wife arrives.
Ensure the A1 English language qualification is from an approved test/test provider, if not qualifying with a degree taught in English.

You may be slightly over optimistic to meet an April deadline. Most Spouse Settlement visas submitted in Doha (where I assume you will be applying), are currently taking 60 days to process, with only 60% being processed in less than 30 days.

I can confirm that my role in the UK is merely a transfer within my current company so I wont actually be changing roles and will still be earning over £18,600. With regards to accommodation, I have a house in SE London which we will include on the application.

My wife's profession is actually that of a Translator between Arabic - English so the English and UK life test (if required) shouldn't be too much of an issue. She's in the UAE at the moment so she will be applying from Dubai.

I will be in the UK permanently from the 14th of April 2016. Can you confirm if we are able to begin the online visa4uk application now and apply for the Dubai interview before I go back to the UK?

Yes, you most certainly can. There may not be an interview. A decision may well well be made on the strength of the documents alone.

Do you think a simple letter from my head of HR outlining my transfer to my UK would be suitable enough to show my job role in the UK? I'm happy to attach pay slips to that too.

You will need a letter from your employer on Company letterhead, confirming the transfer and the terms of employment including salary. Visa fees are increasing on March 18th, so you may want to submit your wife's application before then if you are in a position to do so.
Once the visa is granted, your wife will be issued with a 30 day vignette. This requires her to enter the UK within 30 days and within 10 days of arrival collect her BRP from a designated Post Office.

Sorry to put a damper on your honeymoon plans, but yes she does. You can submit a certified copy of your passport, which I realise doesn't help your situation much.

Your passport copy can be certified by the Post Office (for a fee) or a notary.

Your new wife though has to submit her original passport. A copy will not be accepted.

I may have to delay the appointment if they require her passport and postpone it until we come back :s its too late to delay the honeymoon as its only 2 weeks away! Do you think this would be ok?

A solicitor, notary or the Post Office will certify your passport.
You can of course delay your wife's visa application but you must ensure on the date of submission your pay slips and bank statements are no older than 28 days.
