Yes it will, under current law and practice, assuming the start date on the visa has not been deferred. But given that it is possible to ask for a deferment of the start date by up to 3 months, did you indeed ask for that?

If not, the potential problem is that because she will not enter into the UK in the first 28 days of validity of the visa, potentially you will need to apply for FLR, before applying for the ILR. At current cost levels this means additional costs of £395 by post, or £595 in person at a PEO, but in 2 years time, who knows how much?

Visa application forms > Application form VAF4 - Settlement
6.1.2 When do you want to travel to the UK?
What was her answer? If she put down 1st March 2008, then they may correct the effective and expiry dates. In any event, there is no harm in asking them to amend the visa.

We didn't see anything asking for date of entry on the online form. Will there be any problems for her entering the UK on the 1st of March.

Thanks

John has answered. She will have no problems entering but this will cost you over £300 extra when it comes to extend.

Thank you all for your advice. I'll try and get it changed before we leave.

consulate

Post by misterbill » Wed Jan 09, 2008 11:19 pm

I have tried to get my wifes visa changed but have been unable to do so. My wife called the Chicago consulate and the lady she spoke to said that they should be able to sort this out , that was on Jan 4th and that we would get an email telling us how to proceed. We have recieved nothing up to now. Is this delay normal or should we call again. It cost us $3 per minute to call them so it's not something we want to repeat very often.

We finally got a reply from the Chicago office and they are going to change the date of my wifes visa before we leave. They also recognised that the online form does not ask for a travel date and that they referred this problem back to the UK.

Thanks all

Bill
