New Naturalisation Application

Dear All

I hope you are well. I am ready to apply for my naturalisation and have some queries and also wanted your expert advise of any pros and cons of applying. I got my ILR in April 2015 on the basis of ten year long residency(student+PSW). Please can you advise on below:

1. are there any general requirements(i already have Life in UK and masters degree taught in UK)
2. should i apply for my passport same time as i apply for naturalisation
3. if for any reason application is refused, do i get a refund or the fee is non-refundable
4. can someone please advise and highlight a step by step guide to make this application along with any cautions/additional documentation requirements etc.
5. any time spent when my current visa expired and i was still waiting for a home office decision(for instance when i applied for a student visa in 2008, i got a decision back in 2009), is it taken as legal or illegal stay?
6. what is residency requirement

thanks for your prompt reply.
5) good character requirement is met that is why i was granted ILR, correct?
it is just that i am not sure if they take the time as illegal stay or legal, i am under the impression that it is legal since once you have applied before the expiry date of your current leave it should be okay as in such circumstances your current leave is as per your previous leave. But i am not 100% sure thats why i asked.

But i am not 100% sure thats why i asked.

Don't assume that if you were successful with ILR that any 'good character' checks/requirement are the same for citizenship, they are not the same. The requirement for citizenship is far more strict/stringent. If you applied for visas in time, you would have been covered by Section 3C and your visa conditions continued till HO made a decision on your application, this should not be an issue or overstay/illegal stay.

I hope you are doing well.
I haave quickly gone through the details in the link provided above but I have some further queries, please help.
1. please advise what documents do i have to send with my application beside the below:
All Passports, BRP, Life in UK Test, Masters Degree acquired in UK(for english language), do i have to send p60s or any other documentation with my application?

2. on the form it says that i have to send BRP or give them the reason why am i not sending, and there is no option which lets me choose i am not sending as i am using the NCS from my local council, please advise.

3. we dont know my mother's date of birth, we only know the year(even on her Pakistani ID card it only says year-she is not uk resident), would that be enough or do i have to make up a date like 1st jan of that year?

4. me and my friend(we live at the same address) are applying at the same time so can we be referee for each other?

1. No, no other employment or documentation is required except what the form says you need to submit.

2. Ask NCS to assist you with this.

3. Right year or 'details not known'.

4. It shouldn't be a problem and HO would write to you if it was, but I would suggest find someone else as your professional referee.

I have a friend who is an accountant and is happy to be my referee, but he told me that he has not renewed his subscrpiption, does that matter?

Also can you please advise a bit on what is a professional qualification. Does MBA and Bachelor in Computing are termed as professional qualifications?

Can my manager(product Manager) be my referee, she has a degree in design and we work in a limited company.

Accountant or manager of ltd company that is VAT registered is acceptable; IT professionals in BCS are good too;
(all as long as not related to you or each other; not your representative; no unspent convictions etc etc).

Lastly if someone can tell.how can i go for passport application at same time as nationality checking service and does barking council offer this. Suggest contact NCS at Barking Council or look on their website.
