From Tier 2 ICT to Tier 2 General

Hi,

I am currently on Tier 2 ICT Established staff visa which is sponsored by my company. This visa has been granted on Feb 2011 and from then it has been multiple times extended by my company. So I have completed 5.5 years in this visa.

Currently I have been offered by a UK company for a job and they have agreed to convert my visa to Tier 2 General.

I was checking out a rule which says if anyone converts his visa from ict to general after April 2014 then 6 years cap will be placed on the new visa. That means I will only get another 6 months visa if I change from ICT to General as I have already completed 5.5 years.

If above understanding is true then there is no point of changing the visa to General.

Can you please help me to understand the rules? Am I correct with the above understanding?
