Working abroad on Tier 2

Post by jono436 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 10:27 am

Hi,

I currently have around 2 years left on my Tier 2 visa and am about to move abroad (to NZ) and work remotely for the same company.
I will need to come back to the UK occasionally for work (3 or 4 times a years for a couple of weeks to catch up and have meetings etc...). Am I still able to enter the UK on the Tier 2 visa or will it lapse after I have been out of the country for a certain amount of time? (Not worried about getting ILR)

After my Tier 2 visa expires (either at 2 years or sooner if that turns out to be the case) I will likely become a contractor for the company, what are my options for entering the UK to visit what would be my client at that point, a business visa? Slight inconvenience as I can enter as a tourist without a visa (NZ passport).

Bonus question: Any advice on how I should be paying my tax? I know there is a double taxation agreement (I'm looking through the forms now), just wondering if it differs whether I am still on the Tier 2 visa or contracting.

Thanks,
Jono

Your Sponsor should terminate your tier 2 sponsorship as you are no longer actually working in the UK.

And possibly you need to apply for a Business Visa if you need to visit the UK for business reasons once a while
Any suggestions I make in the forum are out my personal experience and should not be taken as a legal/professional advise.

Thanks for the replies Mole on poper.

I'm a bit confused in regards to the business visa.
I went through the steps for a Standard Visitor visa:
New Zealand
Work, academic visit or business
6 months or less

It states I don't need a visa to go to a conference, meeting or training. Can I claim I will be here for 2 weeks for meetings? Surely most people do some kind of remote work in the down time between meetings.

If I want to work then I need a sponsorship which will obviously lapse and isn't something you could reasonably get every few months for a week or two.

Thanks,
Jono

if you will be here for 2 weeks of meetings, i dont think u need work visa for that. and since you are from NZ and dont need visa to enter uk as a visitor, u will not need a visa to come for meetings.

Thanks iworker. I won't be having meetings the whole time but it will be the reason for coming back.
