Naturalisation query for children under 18 and over 18

I brought my children to UK after I got my British citizenship. They have been around since 2010 and they were born abroad. Please can someone help with advice on how they can get their British Citizenship

Both children arrived in May 2010
First child turned 18 in 2012
Second child turned 16 in 2012

They would have been around in UK for 3 years in May 2013. I thought the younger one will be able to be register as a British citizen although am not sure of the form she will use. Am totally confused about the older one that is now over 18.

Any advice will be useful and appreciated,please

Thanks Jambo. i actually saw the information in the link you posted before my post but it was not very clear to me. sorry to bother you. can you please explain the statement below to me a bit. what will the residency period be, 3yrs or 5yrs? spouse/partner of British citizens can apply after 3yrs but i have never seen it anywhere the residency requirement of a child of British citizen that arrived before 18 and is now over 18

Children who moved to the UK aged 16 or more are likely to get refused and should apply as adults once they meet the Naturalization requirements.

Once he is over 18, he is not considered a child but an adult and needs to meet the naturalisation requirements. If he is not married to a BC that means 5 years of residence, have ILR for at least 1 year, less than 450 days of absence etc..

Just to clarify, what happens in the case where the child already has ILR but only moves to the UK after 16; will their ILR remain in tact? Will they be under 5 years' residence requirement?
