WH visa to HSMP & FLR query

Have been reading through all your threads which are all very helpful, but I'm still a bit confused.

My partner and I are on a two year working holiday visa which is due to expire at the end of this month.

We have applied for a HSMP visa early December and are awaiting approval which I understand can take up to 6 months.

My concern now is the FLR form. The Home office website says not to fill that out until you get a decison about your HSMP.

With our current visa expiring very soon, what should we do. Can we stay and continue to work until we get our decision or do we need to get FLR sorted?
