best way for short term visa for my GF?

Post by sylvester_ » Sun Aug 21, 2016 9:44 pm

I am in a similar situation to the OP, so I'll just join this thread. The difference is that I am Italian (living and working in the UK for 5 years) and my girlfriend is from Russia. We are also thinking about living together for a few months before deciding to take a bigger step.

Regarding the option of a Student Visa that was mentioned before, do you know if it is possible to get such visa for her to come here and study English?

It's actually CAS, Certificate of Acceptance for Studies, issued by the educational establishment.

To avoid confusion between GFs, cases & jumbled responses, I have moved your question to its own thread (this one).

Thank you. I will look for language schools that are certified to issue such certificate.
Maybe you already know some? If so, could you post the link?

Here is a very informative link on the topic 'come to the UK to study English':

The question here is about the difference of Short Term Study Visa and Tier 4 (General) student visa.

CAS seems to be relevant only for Tier 4 (general) student visa, which - correct me if I'm wrong - are only for University students.

I have been reading a lot of other threads in the forum. There quite a lot similar cases. UK citizen or EU citizen resident in the UK with non-EU girlfriend. Most answers come down to 'marry her'.

The other options are:

EEA Family Permit (Unmarried)
Not an option. We haven't lived together for 2 years or more.

Fiance Visa
While marriage is definitely an option for the future, it is still a bit early in the relationship to 'intend to get married within a six month period'.

Short Term Student Visa
She could come and study English for up to 6 months. After that she would have to leave. She's not allowed to work, so I would have to cover her expenses. It is not great, but it is an option.

Tier 2 (General)
It would be really hard to find a sponsor.
The only option here would be a 'work and travel' program. I am not sure how it works. I assume you send truckloads of money to an agency and they arrange a job or internship for you for a couple of months. I don't even know if that is a thing in the UK.

Questions:
  1. Are there any other options?
  2. Can anyone give me more information about the 'work and travel' option?

Because there is no 'girlfriend/boyfriend let's see how we get along' type of visa on UK or EU migration routes.
