Received a call from home office

Post by cp01 » Thu Sep 08, 2016 11:09 am

Hi there,

I just wanted to know, does home office call and ask for you need to come for an interview for your British citizenship application?

Basically the reason why I am in doubt as I was thinking someone who know me was trying to harass me. As I can clearly recognize the person's voice. He was bit rude in speaking and asked me to give me proper answer to his question. I was thinking one of my friend is harassing me so I didn't gave him answer and I said please stopp harassing me. After that the person told me you need to come for an interview for your british citizenship application. I have applied in June via my solicitor and I have received all my documents back and they've asked me to provide my old original passport which covers period from may 2011 to Oct 2011. I send my all three passport to home office.

My questions is :

Does home office can call me directly while I am applying through the solicitor?

Is this a *f a k e call?

Bit nervous after the person disconnected call in anger. After finishing the call I spoke to my few friends and they didn't called me for this.

Thanks

Have you checked the number that called you?
What happens if you call it back?

Listen, my friend had a same kind of call. What you should do is ask them for the reference number they hold of you at home office. Also ask them to confirm your date of birth (not the other way around!). Basically, you need to establish the fact that he is actually for home office. Ask his address, full name and the date you made your application.

Best of all- Ask for a call back number and get a case worker reference number off him.

I dont know how but there is a scam taking place effecting ppl who have british citizenship application pending. By any chance, do you live in London area. More specifically Watford?

(Casa, not CR001)
Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

There was a scam a long while ago where Indians in particular were targeted about alleged problems back home preventing their application from succeeding unless they transfer money (I always wondered how they managed to get a hold of Indian immigrants' phone numbers!).

What you had may or may not be genuine, there have been people who reported having to go to an interview. If they follow it up get their details as advised, although I do get the impression that would contact you by letter first and foremost.

In the guidelines from home office, i remember reading that they may call applicant for an interview at their office or at their home. what happened in your case finally?

Thanks for the reply guys. It was a f a k e call. I have received letter from home office that my application is successful and they'll send me the invitation letter for citizenship ceremony.

Let's hope it was just 'friends' simply 'having a laugh' rather than some sort of information leak or identity theft from a government agency.
