HSMP - Earning while studying

Post by hina_France » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:17 pm

Dear All,

I am an asian national. I have a special case as I am working on full-time basis in a company in France and also pursuing my PhD in parallel (my visa in France says, I am a student). Now I am about to finish my PhD soon and planning to apply for HSMP.

I have been told that I can not earn points on my earnings earned during my study period (even if its full-time job). That is to say that i can only earn points on my phd degree but not on my salaries that i got during my phd studies. Is it true ?

I am looking forward to your sincere advices, suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Hina

I am not sure on whether HSMP team will be worried about France immigration rules.

All they will see is whether you have really worked full time and whether you have really completed your degree and whether the degree is equivalent to british taught degree or not thats it.

But there are more chances for caseworker to get doubt on how you worked full time and studied full time at same time.

You must proove one as part time, or should clearly proove that both have different timings

If documents are clear enough then I hope you have more chances.

if you are not eligible to work in france as per france rules. then in that case even your employer will be reluctant to give you any document.

So as far as you have good documents I dont think there will be any problem

Thanks a billion times Hari.

As you know PhD is not such type of degree where you go and attend classes. You just have to send yearly reports to your adviser highlighting the progress. Since my job is in a research organisation, whatever research i did in my job (conference papers etc) also became the part of my phd at the university. So i cant say that the timing of both were different or one is part-time and other is full-time. Its just the nature of the job which suits very well the PhD requirements.

In this scenario, what do you suggest, should i highlight this point in my application and provide sufficient evidences to prove that.

And what evidences could support my case. I assume, a letter from my employer highlighting that I am a full-time employee working in the company for last X years and enroled at Y university for my phd degree. Or a letter from my professor telling that I am enrolled at the universidy for the phd program as a full-time employee of X company.

In fact i have a job offer at hand, but i need to make sure that I am eligible for HSMP. Otherwise if i am not, i would push my potential employeer in UK to file the workpermit.

Do you still beleive that my case is genuine and i should not have any problem ?
