Standard Visitor Visa for parents

Post by poper » Wed Sep 07, 2016 10:30 pm

Hi All

I wish to bring my parents to the UK from India on a Standard Visitor visa and their visa start period needs to be sometime in November.
I am currently on a Tier 2 ICT with an expiry date of Jan 23, 2017 and will be sponsoring them.
My Tier 2 ICT visa will be extended sometime in December/January.

If my parents apply now for a 6 month Standard Visitor visa, will they be granted 6 months or only for a period till Jan 23, 2017 inline with my visa expiry?

Somebody with prior experience on such a scenario?
Any suggestions I make in the forum are out my personal experience and should not be taken as a legal/professional advise.

6 months seems an excessive 'visit' in any case.

Is it? The guidelines say up to 6 month stay is allowed. So, should be fine i think

How long you can stay
You can usually stay in the UK for up to 6 months.

Long-term visit visas

If you can prove you need to visit the UK regularly over a longer period, you can apply for a visa that lasts 2, 5 or 10 years. You can stay for a maximum of 6 months on each visit.

If it's their first visit they have approximately 0% chance of being granted a 6 month stay

How long did they request to stay then?

Update: Parents have been granted 6 months visitor visa (Nov 2016 to May 2017) though my leave was expiring in Jan 2017
The only annoying thing is we had mentioned in the applications their their travel dates were Dec 2016(onward) and June 2017(return), but have been granted visa from Nov 2016 to May 2017 :?
