EEA Family Permit Interview /Please Advise!

Post by Viajera » Thu Jan 24, 2008 12:01 am

Hi Everyone,
I'm a EU citizen permanently living and working in UK.
I got married 2 weeks ago to my Cuban boyfriend and we
applied for an EEA family permit for him at UK Embassy in Cuba.
As most of Cubans, he never traveled abroad; we applied for a UK tourist
visa for him 2 times last year and both times it was refused on the grounds that they suspect that he might not com back and will become an illegal immigrant.
Now we've got married and I want my husband to join me in the UK.
We submitted the EEA application and the required docs, after that his
fingerprints and a photo were taken, than we were asked to come back
in about 2 hours. After 2 hours waiting he was told to come back
for an interview next Monday.
I'm really worried about this, so if someone could share their experience
or give an advise on what to expect and how to prepare, we’ll greatly
appreciate this. Many thanks in advance!

EEA Family Permit Interview /Please Advise!

As you have been married (13.10) for only a short time, they require an interview (13.17); probably to satisfy themselves that your relationship/marriage is genuine (13.13) and not a marriage of convenience.

If he is applying from outside the EEA, then see also EEA Family permit got refused! confusing reasons; gather as much evidence as you can to show that he qualifies as a spouse (13.5) and can satisfy the maintenance and accommodation requirements.

Good luck!

Dear Vinny,
thanks for your expert advise , it was helpful. Indeed, it appears
that the purpose of the interview was mainly to check if the
marriage is genuine. The interview lasted about 20 min and my
husband was asked detailed questions about our relationship,
families, marriage, plans for the future etc. The EEA permit
was then issued on the same day.
Now it’s time for the next challenge, he needs to
get PRE (Permiso de Residencia en el Exterior) ,
a permission from the Cuban government to get out
of the country ( yes, Cuban people need permission from
their government to travel abroad. The beauty of dictatorship!)
