get mother to join daughter with British citizenship

Post by Geetika » Fri Dec 16, 2016 12:18 am

Hi All,

I understand the stringent policy that its almost impossible to get any parent to the UK. Me and my husband have British citizenship and I am the only child of my mother who is 60yrs old. We are looking for the best solution to get my mother to the UK. It can even be 2yrs or 5yrs visa and if we can extend the same after 5 yrs. Or any other solution that is better than the usual 6 month visitor visa. I am really fed up with this UK policy. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

There is no best solution, there is only Surinder Singh. That option has recently been tightened up in UK - and is only an option for as long as UK remains in EU.

As noajthan points out above though, you have approximately 0% chance success with the ADR visa unless your mother has serious medical conditions for which care is unaffordable or unavailable in her home country. A refused ADR visa will also close the door for future visitor visas.

Surinder Singh, or moving to her country are realistically your only options.

And how about the visa to join family? Can I get that one for my mother to join here for may be 2yrs or 5yrs? And then after 5 yrs, can I take the same visa again?

No, there is no 'best solution', there is only Surinder Singh.

And even Surinder Singh is getting tightened and will eventually disappear with Brexit (it is a part of EU law, not UK law).

So, if you really want your mother here in the UK for certain, get your nuclear family moving (to another EEA country) and exercising (treaty rights).

... abroad, with whole family, in Europe (EU). For 6 or 9 months or more.

That's the only lifeline - and only until UK pulls the plug on EU.
