Norwegian Citizen with British Father

Post by Californiaguy » Tue Jan 17, 2017 8:49 am

Hi,

I'm asking this question on behalf of a work colleague.

She was born and raised in Denmark to a Norwegian mother and a British father. She only holds a Norwegian passport. She was born after 1983 but before 2006. Her parents did marry after she was born which would normally make her automatically a UK citizen. Since her father is a UK citizen not by descent is it most likely that she became a UK citizen by descent when her parents married?

Not sure if later marriage would retrospectively confer nationality on offspring born before marriage, but your colleague should register as a British citizen using Form UKF. The fee for form UKF is £80, jut the fee for attending the citizenship ceremony.

It's possible that she may be automatically British by descent due to the subsequent marriage of the parents.
