Dependants not table to travel within 1 month visa validity?

Hi

My Wife and son got the visa on May 2016 and not able to travel because of official and personal issues.
What is the next procedure if they want to travel again to UK from India.

Do they need to apply for the new visa from the scratch like what we did for the fist time(submitting all the documents).?

Is there any procedure to renew the current visa? If yes , is there any time limit for the renewal like it can be done only within 6 months or 1 year and Cost for the renewal?

My Visa will expire on 2018.
