Child Benefit - Fill in as married?

Post by msnapz » Sun Mar 19, 2017 9:03 am

Hi there. I know there have been numerous posts on this however trying to fill in the child benefit form. I have myself, a british citizen as the claimant but then it asks if im married, which I am with a wife on a uk spouse visa. It asks for her national insurance number, which she should have shortly but doesnt have one yet.

My question is should i leave the question blank where it asks if im married, single etc? If I mark married and put my wifes name will this mean she is a public charge? Plus she doesnt have her national insurance number yet!

Thanks for any help.

Your MUST declare correctly that you are married. CB must be claimed in your name only. Leave the NI question blank.

If you state that you are single you will be submitting a false declaration. :!:

Add your wife's name but if she doesn't have a NI number you can't give one.

No. Provide your wife's details as the form asks, minus the NI number (which she doesn't have).

No problem to include your wife's name as the bank account is joint.
