Tier 2 General Dependant Visa

Post by jiman » Tue May 02, 2017 10:03 pm

I've been working in the UK using Tier 2 General visa and I can apply for my ILR end of next year. My current employer had just renewed my visa for 2 years which is more than enough to get my ILR and I would like to help my wife to apply for a dependant visa which she's currently in Singapore at the moment.

I've got 3 questions:
1. If I apply for her dependant visa, will her expiry date follow my 2 years visa?
2. What will happen to her dependant visa when I'm applying for my ILR at the end of next year?
3. If I've applied for her dependant visa now, and in case if I've moved to another company like at the end of the year this year. Do I need to do anything with her dependant visa (like reapply again?)

Thank you for all your help

1. Yes, her visa will expire at the same time as yours.

2. If you apply for ILR based on Tier 2 and 5 years residence, she can continue extending her Tier 2 dependent visa until she meets the requirements for ILR with years residence.

2. No, your visa will change if you change sponsor but no need to change her visa.

Thanks for the reply.

On question (3).
My only concern is i'm having a Tier 2 General visa expiring 10 Apr 2019 and I should be able to apply for ILR around Sep 2018. So if I send home all the documentation for my wife to apply for her dependant visa, she'll get her dependant visa expiring on 10th Apr 2019.

So, the question is if I move to another company and they only manage to do 1 year Tier 2 General which for example ends on Dec 2018, I should be able to apply for ILR, but do I have to reapply for my wife's dependant visa due to her having a longer end date on her visa as compared to mine?

Thanks
