Cover letter spouse visa - Help

Post by Nathalia » Mon May 22, 2017 5:40 pm

Hello all,

I am really new here but I have found almost every thread I have read really helpful.
I am currently applying for a family settlement visa as a wife of a British citizen. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on the cover letter my husband wrote.

Title: "Letter of support for Applicant's spouse visa application"

Dear Sir or Madam,

Re: Application for a UK Settlement Visa – XXX
I am writing in support of my wife, XXX, in respect of her visa application to settle with me in the United Kingdom.

Brief Background
I am a British national and have a landscaping company based in the XXX (see section X). My wife XXX is a communications professional with an MBA and an MSc in Digital Marketing (see section X). Right now I can provide the sufficient funds to support my wife here in the UK nevertheless, she is very eager to find a job and to contribute to the family income. I have been renting a three bedroom flat in XXX for a year now and I am in a rolling contract right now and the landlord is fully aware of my intention of having my wife living with me (see section X). We intend to settle in XXX, which is my hometown and my wife loves the life in the outskirts of big cities like Liverpool and Manchester.

Relationship History
XXX and I first met in May 2014 at a restaurant in Chester called XXX. I decided to approach her while having a drink and we started talking and had a really long conversation and decided to meet again the following weekend. She was living in Chester at the time while doing her MBA and given that I was working and living in XXX we could only see each other on the weekends, which we did every weekend after meeting initially. We became officially a couple approximately a month after meeting. As we both like to travel so much, I tried to take my wife to nice city breaks, we went to York, Wales and London (see section x) and we travelled to NY for her birthday on October 2014 (see section X).

XXX then returned to her home country when she finished her MBA and I decided to visit her and to meet her family therefore, I travelled to Bogota, Cali where I met all her family and later we travelled together to San Andres (see section).

We continued our long distance relationship through FaceTime audio call mostly, Whatasapp and iMesseges (see section x). Later on, XXX got accepted into her dream course which was on Digital Marketing (see section X) at the John Moores University in Liverpool so, she came back to England on October 2015. We continued our relationship seeing each other every time we could, she was living in Liverpool and was much easier for me to visit her and for her to come to my place anytime she could. We travel a bit, we went to Innsbruck, Austria to ski and to Santorini, Greece for her birthday (see section x).

After three years of relationship, XXX was ready to go back to her hometown and we decided we really wanted to be together and start a family. It was important for us to get married and for her father to be there to see her get married. It was also important for us that our families met, therefore we decided to get married in Colombia where I would travel with my family and friends.
We got married on the 15th of April 2017 (see section X), then travelled to Cartagena with my family and later on, I had to return to my work.

Current Circumstances
At the time of writing I have returned to the UK to take care of my business and obtain the remaining documents required for XXX visa application. Nathalia is back in Colombia and is taking this time to be with her parents and family before she can join me, if her visa application is successful.

I thank you for taking the time to read this letter of support and trust that we have been able to provide sufficient evidence that we are in a genuine and subsisting relationship and that I am able to fully support my wife in the UK.

XXX has included my UK contact details in section x of the application form. Should you require any further information from me please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Yours faithfully,
XXXX

Hi Nathalia,

It's fine but too much information and too long. Try to be a little more succinct about relationship details and timeline.

For example, we met in Chester in 2014 and typically saw each every weekend for x months. We've enjoyed many city breaks together and have spent time living together in country x between x and x dates.

You have to cover all of this information on Appendix 2 (VAF 4A) Financial Requirement Form. Best not to repeat it here in the cover letter. You can add it in to the additional information section and use extra sheets there, that is where most of this belongs if you want to include it.

Couple of other points I would change are

1) "right now I can provide sufficient funds". Sounds like only today rather than 33 month duration! In my letter I covered this as

"I commit to covering all of our expenditures and fully supporting myself and my wife financially, without recourse to state aid in any form."

2) Landlord comment

I live permanently in the UK at the address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. This is the address where myself and my wife xxx will live. The property is privately rented, solely occupied by myself and I have a letter of no objection from the landlord for my wife to live with me in this property.

"Dream course", not necessary, "start a family", not necessary, "father wants us married" lovely story but not necessary. I'm not wishing to be critical, just helpful.

There is no right or wrong answer.

Good Luck
Simon
I'm not an expert and only answer from my personal experience and understanding of the rules. Spouse Settlement Visa Granted for my wife July 2017. You should not take my advice as absolute.
