Child tax credit

Post by michelissa » Wed Jun 07, 2017 12:49 am

Dear team,
I apologise in advance if the topic was discussed before (I blame google).

I got my ILR in the end of 2015.

I have two children: one is British by birth and another one who is not British yet.

I am exploring the child vouchers and I cam through tax credits.

I wonder if you could let me know the answer to the following:

If I am claiming child tax credit on my non-brutish child, will that count as access to public funds on his behalf?

can I claim child tax credit on behalf of my British child only?

Do child vouchers count as public funds?

as you are aware, there will be changes in child vouchers to tax free childcare
will the new scheme count as public fund?

Thank you very much for your help
Kind Regards

You are free to claim what you qualify for. YOU are claiming NOT the children.

Tax credits MUST be claimed in JOINT names with your spouse or partner.

Thank you for your reply
with regards to your second part (me and my spouse)
I understand that if my spouse has no access to public funds then I can't claim tax credit?
Kind Regards

You're mistaken. You are able to claim tax credits as long as you claim in joint names, which CR001 has already advised.
(Casa, not CR001)
Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Hi everyone

I'm about to do wife's extension for flr fp 10 yr route I have read from other posts that it is ok to claim Cb wtc and ctc
the problem I have is my wife is the main claiment for ctc it comes under her name even tho it's joint it shows her name
For wtc I am the main claiment it comes under my name

Another problem I have is when my wife filled the ctc form she didn't tick the box to tell them she's under immigration control

Will this be a problem?

Has she breached her conditions?
