Medical certificate expired - do you need new one

Hi can somebody please help me out

Alhamdulillāh my spouse has got visa. He will be coming to the Uk soon inshallah. However the Medical certificate that he gave in with his papers, has expired in may 2017.

My question is - does he need a new medical certificate that's IN DATE to come to the UK?

I think even its expired the entry won't be refused because it must be valid (unexpired) at the time of application.
