Citizenship enquiry

Post by Dylansdoor11 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 12:28 pm

Hi all,

Long time user of the forum which is great! I'm going for citizenship after just over a year with ilr... I'm just wondering regarding biometrics, I applied for ilr with same day service so do you just state the date I did the same day appointment and where? Also regarding previous employers do I state the place where I worked or their head office? I worked in a couple of pubs that have different addresses to head office. Do I also use their company name when I worked there or their new name as it's changed? Regarding tax office where do I find tax office reference? And for address of employer do i use the place I work or the company that pays me? Thanks! Sorry about all the questions!

Also, last question! My first referee doesn't have a current passport number so do I just leave blank? My other referee is submitting his passport number. Is this fine? Thanks

What is on your payslips and P60's?
I worked in a couple of pubs that have different addresses to head office. Do I also use their company name when I worked there or their new name as it's changed?

What is was when you worked there. In brackets you can add the new name if you wish.
Regarding tax office where do I find tax office reference? And for address of employer do i use the place I work or the company that pays me?
On your P60 or ask HO. Address is the one for the company on your P60.
My first referee doesn't have a current passport number so do I just leave blank? My other referee is submitting his passport number. Is this fine?
He can put the expired passport number.

Hi Char, the payslips are from head office so I will do that for previous employers. I've found my address for company that pays me so I guess I don't need to fill in tax office reference then. I'll ask my boss for their old passport number, I've read this though, 6.3.7.9 Those acting in a professional capacity may not wish to provide their personal details. In such cases, we would be content for the person acting as a referee to put his or her business contact details. In addition, if the person does not wish their passport details to be seen by the person applying for citizenship, they can omit this from the form, entering “details available on request”. does that mean that don't need to provide passport number?

Ok thanks, wasn't sure if I should change referees! My second referee needs to show their passport number though? Regarding biometrics do I just state the day I completed them for the same day appointment for ilr? Thanks

Ok and what should be my last question! I'm aiming to apply in the next 2 weeks, I'm on holiday in Germany in August so do I include this date for days out of the country even though t hasn't happened? Presuming I should because by the time home office receive my form I'll be on holiday or don't state days out of country that hasn't happened yet

No you don't. Only absences up to the date of application is counted.

Assuming you are applying using NCS, the date of your NCS appointment is the date of application. Make sure you were physically present in the UK at the start of your qualifying period 5 years ago.

If applying through NCS, are you applying using the joint citizenship and passport scheme where you apply for both at the same time?

I moved here on ancestry 6 years ago and had ilr since April last year. Yep I'm applying for the dual option with ncs thanks to your recommendation! It seems a lot less stress free doing it that way so when the date for ncs is coming I can write that date as date of application

Correct yes and you must make sure you were in the UK on the exact same date in 2012. If you were not (even if out of UK on holiday) your application will be refused and you will lose your fee.

That is part of the Nationality law and requirement that you must meet. British citizenship is based on 5 years residence qualifying period, counting backwards from date of application.

Date of application through NCS is the date you attend the NCS offices, as mention already.

Date of application if applying by post is the date that Home Office receives the application.

Wow, thanks for the vital heads up! So just to clarify I'm fine with one of my referees to supply passport details as the other doesn't have a current passport or should I ask someone else?

Should be fine yes. If HO is not happy with a referee, they will write to you to provide another.

Ok thanks for all the help. When I worked supply at a school I was paid by one employer for a couple of days then began getting paid by an umbrella company for them, do I list both companies? I don't have a p60 for either so will have to use their residential address online.

Presumably as an umbrella company, you were classed as 'self employed' and contracting? How was your income tax paid?

I wasn't self employed, I was employed to the agency and filled the time sheets to the umbrella company If I can remember correctly! After I signed to the umbrella company they dealt with my income tax

It is a legal requirement to issue a P60.

That aside, the agency was then your employer if you were on their payroll.

Thanks. I'm filling in my form now, I was wondering with additional documents, should I include my employment history I received off hmrc and a recent p60? Or will passport, brp and life in uk test pass suffice?

You could submit 5 years P60's but if all the information of NI etc is in the form, NCS might not submit the P60s.
