Referee for AN Naturalisation

Post by geleonti » Sat Jul 08, 2017 1:56 pm

Hi Everyone,

Thanks in advance for taking a look and replying to my query.

I am planning to apply for the British Citizenship and the only thing that concerns me is the referee requirements. I am fully aware of all the requirements and regulations.

Long story short, I have read most of the threads here but haven't found a definite answer as yet.

I have obtained two references (both from University Lecturers - one is also a British Citizen). The problem is that one of them knows me for 1 year (less than 3 years per the requirements) and of course this has been stated in the form.

a)is this case a definite situation whereby UKBA will ask for another referee or do they look at the individual circumstances (e.g., in my case two professional people one of who is BC)?

b)any chance my application being rejected outright instead of contacting me to ask for another referee?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,
George

Your referees (both) must have known you for 3 years, as the requirement states.

HO might ask you for another referee, they might not.

Only one referee needs to be British (the 'friend' referee). The professional referee can be any nationality.

Thanks for the response.

The reason I opened this thread is due to the stories I have read whereby referees were accepted even though all the requirements were not met.

For the sake of flexibility, offering two referees both professionals and one of them also being British, shall I expect this to be adequate or the HO WILL for sure ask for another?

Always asking based on the experiences of the members, not what the regulations state.

Thanks!

Members on the forum generally get referees that have known them for 3 years, as the requirements for BC state. Surely you know someone for 3 years that has a British passport? They DO NOT have to be British from birth, it can be someone who got citizenship recently through naturalisation.

The only time this is less relevant and acceptable is for children born in the UK before parents got ILR.
