Student on Tier 4 visa married to EU citizen in the UK

Post by amy2227 » Tue Aug 15, 2017 5:03 pm

Hi there.
I am a postgraduate student, currently living in the UK on a Tier 4 visa. My husband is an EU national who works in the UK ( qualified worker since he has been here less than 5 years). My question is, which visa do I need to apply for? I am from Mauritius. Please advice or let me know your experience as it seems that I need an EEA family permit but i need to be outside the UK to so. Is it possible to apply for a residence card directly or I need any other form of visa?

Yep, apply residence card direct. I just mailed mine off yesterday so let me know if you have any questions. My wife is also an EEA national who is a qualified person. I'm a non-EEA national in the UK on a tier 4 visa as a postgrad student. Let's hope it's all smooth sailing!

thank you! you may have saved us from spending a small fortune trying to get a lawyer. I'll be applying for the residence card next month as my passport is with DVLA right now. Let me know how it goes and I'll do the same. Fingers crossed!

One more question, what should I fill in the fingerprints in previous immigration application ; british diplomatic post if they were taken abroad and place at which they were taken? My fingerprints were taken in Mauritius but the british high commission in Mauritius does not process visas, so applications are sent to South Africa. However there is a british embassy in Mauritius. I'm confused.
