Tier 4 dependent visa to tier 2 general visa

Hi all, I'm currently on tier 4 dependent visa and want to change to tier 2, my employer has already accepted to sponsor me but was concern about the rules of £30,000. Under my own employment guide or category on UKVI website, it says we should meet the category in which I met but this guys in immigration calling center is saying it must be £30,000. How true is this, does that mean if you don't earn £30,000 u can't qualify?

As a new tier 2 applicant, you need to earn what the SOC says OR £30,000, whichever is HIGHER.

Thanks guy, I'm above 26, only been curious because of several job categories in which I fall unto and it defines my job (2449) . Which says new entrant 20,800 and experience as 23,100. But the 30,000 was just a general comment, I wonder how many companies will be able to afford 30,000 except the professional ones.

In addition to the salary issue. The company must also carry out a proper RLMT. The fact that you are already working for them might make RLMT a little bit hard due to pre selection. That doesn't mean the company can't do a proper and successful RLMT, just you need to think about it

Appropriate salary
You’ll usually need to be paid at least £30,000 per year or the ‘appropriate rate’ for the job you’re offered - whichever is higher. Check the appropriate rate for the job you’ve been offered.

Check the guidance for situations when you can be paid less - for example if:

you’ll work as a medical radiographer, nurse, paramedic or secondary school teacher in some subjects
you’ll work as a pre-registration nurse or midwife

Start from the introduction and read the appropriate salary section. I don't think you qualify under any of the "New Entrant" category.
If the salary you have been offered is not far from 30k you might want to negotiate with your HR.

You said you're qualified for RLMT, how did you know?

Has the RLMT been carried out? Because part of the requirements of RLMT is the issue of salary. Which means your potential employer will need to state the salary they want to offer the position. They cannot offer you a salary higher than what they advertised for RLMT. You see how everything is connected...

The fact that you are qualified to switch to Tier 2 doesn't mean that the RLMT has been done correctly.
All these things are not necessary difficult, they just require that one pays extra attention to every single detail.

If you still have enough time on your Tier 4 dependant visa, you might want to search for other jobs, in case your current employer are not able to increase your salary to 30k.

Hmmmmm, thank you very much for this tip, I can realise that they all connect with each other, because on the advertisement of the job, the salary says 23,355 and it's really far from the 30,000 required, I think there is no reason to push it forward anymore as I know my HR will not want to push me to 30,000.

Djsuccess, I have checked the site you put and my job description falls under table 2, if you drop the table 2 and go to category 2449, you will see my salary category there, that's why I said, it doesn't say 30,000. Can you please explain this to me better becos the RLMT fit in with this.

The requirement of minimum £30,000 are for all NEW tier 2 CoS issued after 26th November 2016 and applications from April this year I believe. HO raised the threshold from £25,000 to £30,000, as my link shows.
