NON-EEA/EU visa in the EU before Brexit

Hi Everyone,

Since the INIS in Ireland is extremely delaying the process and people have been waiting for months and even over a year and so for the visa decision to be made, would it wise to withdraw the visa application and apply in another EU country just on accompany basis rather than join basis and then once the visa has been granted, the EU citizen then can move to that EU country and exercise free movement rights?

If so, what EU country would you suggest for Pakistani nationals that has the least immigration of Pakistanis or South Asians?

Do you think there are chances of a Pakistani to get a visa there since Polish has been quite strict with immigration specially most recently due to refugees etc.
I did think of Poland but I doubt I can get a job there because of the language barrier.

I think that suggestion was a bit tongue in cheek.

All of Eastern Europe has very little in ways of Pakistani/Indian/Middle Eastern/North African immigration and there are reasons for that.

I like Poland a lot; when I live in Germany, I am not that far from the Polish border and cultures are not all that different, half my extended family goes there for summer holidays. Nevertheless, it would not come to my mind to move there with my husband, who is originally from Pakistan.

In general, any non-English speaking European country will have only a small-ish Pakistani community (at least compared to the UK and apparently now Ireland), which does not mean that you won't encounter all sorts of subtle or not-so-subtle hostility. Big cities are usually okay, though.

You may want to follow and see the posts of member BobtheMoggie, who is likewise attempting to have his parents join him in an EU country. He has looked at a fair few countries and even looked at working across borders (frontier workers) to trigger EU rights. His posts suggest that he has had issues with even continental European countries. I presume that even they may be unsure of the Brexit negotiations and hence dragging their feet.

Have you looked at Norway and Sweden? Norwegian-Pakistanis are well-represented in Norwegian politics, making up 10% of the Oslo City Council. A Norwegian-Pakistani politician Haque Nawaz Akhtar Chaudhry was a vice-president of the Norwegian Storting in the recent past. Were you to go down that route (of applying in Norway), perhaps you can ask him or his office to intervene in the matter if the UDI were to drag their feet on your application.

I did think of Norway and Sweden and tried to get in touch with people that deal with such visas and found that specifically for Sweden that it can take way more than 6 months or even over 20 months for the authorities to get back and you cannot even complain about them to the EU authorities.

Yes but I obviously meant it in the context of higher chances of getting non-eea/eu visa and quickly also. Otherwise it would be pointless of me to go to Poland.
