Need advice about Tier 2 Dependentent

Hi All,

I have following scenario, can you please guide me.

- My (main applicant) Tier 2 General visa expires in 3 Years and 3 months
- I want to apply my wife's (dependent) visa so that I only have to pay 3 years visa fee and IHS.
- I have read that visa application date starts when application fee is paid.

- When can I apply for 3 years dependent visa (as they grant visa according to main applicant's visa expiry)?
- Can I apply now and give date of travel so that it falls within 3 years OR
- Do I have to make application fee payment when 3 years are left on my visa?

PS: I tried to find the answer online and in UKVI guidance documents but unable to find this use case.

is your current cos issued for more than 3 years?

- Yes, my CoS is for more than 3 years.
- My visa was granted on 24-11-2015 and it expires on 14-12-2020. I have only one visa, i didn't have any UK visa before.

Generally speaking, the visa your dependents are going to apply are applied against your cos as your dependent.
So as far as i understand the rules, she will need to pay for over 3 years dependent visa anyway, even if it was 2 years left.
However, there was someone on this forum who rebuked me when he successfully managed to get pbs dependent visa, when his original cos was for 5 years, and when his dependent was applying for less than 3 years. I seem to think he was lucky.
If you are planning to fee less than 3 years fee, you should only apply when the validity of your visa is less than 3 years from the date of applying
