You need to earn £18,600pa to qualify for a spouse visa and must submit at least 6 months worth of evidence.

Student loan and mortgage should not affect the visa.

A point to note as some members have been refused because of this, is that if your weekend job is 'cash in hand', you must put it in the bank. If it does not appear on your bank statement as a salary/wage payment, HO will not take it into account.

Bank statement MUST match what your payslips say.

Yes, that would be preferable. Assuming of course that you will also get payslips.

I only mentioned the 'cash in hand' scenario as many 'weekend' jobs are cash in hand and people tend to spend it rather than put it in the bank

As per your wages of £14500 you need the following savings to cover shortfall:

18600-14500=4100×2.5+16000= £26250

I think savings in more than 1 banks maybe allowed

The savings can be in multiple accounts but they must have been held in accessible accounts for a minimum of 6 months. Only savings over £16,000 will be considered to make up any shortfall.

thank you Casa And Seagul
sorry i couldnt find this topic i created, and wasnt aware it had been merged!

i have about £22k in one of my account which i saved from student loans and grants since 2014 and also from wages. how would i prove the source of income if its from the past? and is it an issue to have student loans as savings? i will receive a cash gift from parents after my wedding.

As seagul has advised, without income you would need to have £26250 in savings. A wedding gift of money would also need to be held in an accessible bank account for at least 6 months.

I'm unsure whether a student loan could be considered as savings as this is to pay for your study fees.

But the £22k I have is from student loan I saved instead of spending it. I wouldn't need to pay back my student loan unless I'm earning over 22k Per annum. Also is a debit card account classed as an accessible bank account?

You cannot use your student loan to prove 'savings'. It is not your money. A student loan is for studying. If you have not spent it, did you study at all?

yes i did study for 2 years before i dropped out, but as i was living from parents house and also received a few grants from my previous institution. i dropped out of uni a few years ago and the loans company have told me i only pay back the money once i am earning over 22k. i am not one to blow any money, unlike most students do.

can someone help me please?
can i declare the source of income as savings instead of telling them it was a maintenance loan/grant? as £4000 was gifted to me when i first opened the account, and then sold my car, which i transferred £5000 cash into my account. i then have income from my job which is £3000. so that totals £12000. and 10k which i saved from student loans, grants and scholarship which i received

thanks

Hi all
I would just like some info in regards to accomadation.
I will provide a letter from the housing association and also a cover letter from my parents confirming I am ok to live with my wife in their house as long as I like and no overcrowding etc. I will aslo provide a surveyors report confirming this. I will send in water bills, gas & electric both in my dads name to confirm he is living there. Will that be enough to satisfy the requirement? I won't be providing a council tax bill as it's all online. Will this be ok?
Thanks
