NARIC Requirement and Validity

Hi,
I am on tier 2 general visa and and will be applying for ILR in next year in Nov 2018. I was wondering if NARIC is a mandatory requirement for ILR application for tier 2 general immigrants. The knowledge of english can also be demonstrated by SELT. Yet I know people who are tier 2 immigrants and doing NARIC red route.
Do tier 2 immigrants applying for ILR need qualification comparison as well? And also is there any validity period of NARIC certificate? Someone said it's valid for six months only.

NARIC is required if you only want to rely on your degree from abroad. You can alternatively provide SELT
