my british passport expired on 22/10/17. i was born in birmingham on 27/4/75. my parents are egyptian so i acquired my first egyptian passport around 1979 when i was four ie dual national. i have had 2 egyptian passports with the only one remaining which was issued in 1987 and expired 1993. i sent that to the PO after declaring dual nationality. all is good till now. my middle name is naim and is written as such on my british passport. i received a letter from the PO stating that my name is different on my egyptian passport. this is because 30 years ago in 1987 my middle name was spelt with an extra e giving naeim my mistake. i cannot get a new egyptian passport with the right name issued because i would have to travel to egypt and process a list of other documents and at the moment both of my passports are expired so i have no passport anyway to leave the country. i also have a medical condition for which i cannot get reliable treatment abroad. my mother is going to try and contact the egyptian consulate to see if a letter can be issued or some kind of stamp on the expired egyptian passport proving that my middle name was spelt by error with one letter out of place 30 years ago. i guess they would use my birth certificate//photocopy of expired british passport as a guide. this is the first time i have been asked to show british authorities my egyptian passport on applying for a UK passport renewal.
if i am not initially issued a new british passport ie its refused does that affect my right to live in uk as normal? i was born in birmingham in 1975 so i am a british citizen. i've been having disastrous scenario thoughts as i don't know anything about this.
can anyone advise with this problem i feel trapped from every angle?
