Marriage Visitor visa to Family Visa?

Post by jjc25 » Fri Nov 17, 2017 2:14 am

Hello,

My partner and I have been together for over 3 years and are planning on getting married and me moving to the UK (since he is a British citizen). I have looked at the gov website and seen that I can apply for the Marriage Visitor visa to marry my partner in the UK, but as I was reading the overview of the visa there is a line that has me a bit concerned.

It says "You must apply for a Marriage Visitor visa if you’re not planning to stay or settle in the UK after your marriage or civil partnership."

Now my partner and I wish to live in the UK, so our plan was that after we marry I would apply for the Family Visa to join him. Am I just misunderstanding? Or will me getting the Marriage Visitor prevent me from then applying for the Family Visa?

Please and thank you to anyone who can answer my question.

J.

Marriage visit visa is for those who merely wish to marry in the UK, you cannot switch from it (or any form of visit visa)

You should be looking at the Fiancee visa.

In addition to Wanderer's advice...you'll see that the fiancee (settlement) visa is far more expensive.
£1,464 fiancee visa (settlement)
then once married:
£993 FLR(M) visa + £500 IHS surcharge. If you apply in person at a PSC + £590
(Casa, not CR001)
Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
