British Citizenship application - Partner's child born outside UK

Hi,

My Friend have got the ILR (5 year route) on Feb'17, so will be due for Citizenship on Feb'18 I presume.
He is married to a widower with a child born in India.
The wife and child are in UK on my friend's dependant VISA since 2.5 years. Application have been submitted in India for the legal adoption of the child to my friend as Father but it might take long.

Shall he go for British citizenship? Will the child gain the same status as step-father?
What happens if the step-father becomes a British Citizen and later his adoption request is approved in India?

The child will follow the same path to settlement as the less privileged parent....in this case the mother.

Is he married to a widow or a widower? Your post is slightly confusing on that aspect.

How old is the child?

If the child is legally adopted after the (adoptee) father has acquired British citizenship, s/he may automatically acquire British citizenship from the (adoptee) father. To the best of my knowledge, if the adoption takes place before the father acquires citizenship, then the procedure as outlined by Casa applies.

Essentially, the process would be exactly analogous to a child born abroad to the parent before and after the parent acquires British citizenship.

Thanks for your response.
Child is 3.5 years old.
So, if father gets the british citizenship before adoption, as the child and mother will still be indian, shall the adoption needs to happen in UK or in India.
Does Father needs to declare that is want to pursue adoption during the citizenship application?
